Maths Program
Missing Basic ConceptsThe Davis Maths program is a unique program in that it covers the core concepts of maths, for example – change, consequence, cause/effect, sequence, time, order/disorder. These concepts are often missing in children that have difficulty in maths. Until these concepts have been understood by the individual, it will be extremely difficult for that person to understand maths. These concepts are covered by working with them in the ‘real world’, then they are brought into the persons understanding through clay models – in order to create a concept it must be truly understood, not just observed.
Basic Maths Functions - Add/subtract/multiply/divide
Once these concepts have been mastered, we move onto the various functions of mathematics. All of the basic maths functions are also covered in a real world situation and then in a maths situation – for example: Divide being ‘separates into groups’ – for many people that have difficulty with maths, these simple maths functions are not understood on a basic level. Once this is achieved progress can happen. It is not tutoring, although we do cover maths problems at a basic level to ensure the person can understand.
What will be the result of the Maths program?
The maths program is designed to allow the child continue to improve after the program is completed. In fact most of the improvement will happen in the following months since these concepts will now allow the teaching that is occurring in the school environment to make sense to the child and progress can now happen.
